Reading Diary 5

6. Sometimes we are pulled toward one or two characters in the story. We identify with them or feel sympathy for them. With which characters do you identify in the book, and why do you believe you identify with them?Well I would Identify the father and son Hanji and Jiro.I picked them because of their relationship as father and son and what happened between them. Jiro is a boy with a lot of potential of being a master puppeteer as for Hanji is Jiros dad but one day he was said to be sick, after when Jiro went back he couldn't find Hanji so then at the end of the story Jiro found out that Hanji was apart of Saburo's band of thieves.I feel sorry for Jiro because his father is a criminal but Hanji was lucky that his son didn't turn him in because he was his father. In my thought I might have turned him in because he broke the law and I could've went to jail also.So I could have hard to deal with living with someone who has committed crimes but I would have to live with it.

  1. Wow. Good job!! Yeah, I would have a hard time deciding whether to turn him in or not because they might just arrest me, too. I would also feel sympathy for Jiro because he finally found what he's good at (Controlling the puppets), and his father is a criminal!! I would feel really bad for Jiro because his father is a criminal while his mother is starving.

  2. Well I think it would be hard also to turn his dad in I would not turn my dad in I would ask him why he did it and if he dose not then maybe i would turn him in and then bail him out or something.

  3. I like that you focused on the father-son relationship. You must have a strong bond with your dad. It would be difficult to go with your normal life knowing that someone you deeply love and respect was a criminal. I really like that, despite everything that went on in this story, it was Jiro's struggle between right and wrong that really grabbed you.

  5. I like how you could relate Hanji and Jiro to you and your father! Living with someone who is against and has broken the law will surely take a toll after a while and may leave you feeling guilty. Guilt could crack even a strong willed person!

  6. I like how you focued on the father-son relationship and i also agree with you on how you said ".I picked them because of their relationship as father and son and what happened between them." because it shows that they had a good relationship as a father and son.
